Gwithian and Praa Sands are two of the most recognised family friendly surfing beaches in Cornwall. Families make up the majority of surf school and coasteering customers during the school holidays. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult when joining a family group lesson. For families with younger children we would recommend booking a Private Family Lesson.
There is not a better family experience to share in Cornwall than surfing. Whether it’s the thrill of all the family standing up and sharing a ‘Party Wave’. Or the entertainment of watching each other ‘Wipeout’ in spectacular fashion.
At Global Boarders safety is everything, all our instructors are trained lifeguards each with over 15 years surfing and lifesaving experience. Our wetsuits are all winter thickness and surfboards are kept to the highest standards and are no more than 2 years old.
All participants will benefit from exclusive use of our facilities, including heated changing rooms and toilets. Directly next to the surf school is Sunset Surf Cafe, Gwithian only beach front cafe. Open daily 10am – 4pm giving surfers and spectators access to lovely food and drink during your visit.

We provide 2-hour bespoke private surf lessons for small family groups of three – five individuals, including full winter warmth equipment hire and exclusive use of our facilities.
Where possible on multi lesson packages we will guarantee the same coach that taught you on your group on the previous lessons.
BOOK PRIVATE
The 3 lesson course of lesson is our ‘Most Popular’ family package, you are now surfing towards some of the most exciting skills to learn as a beginner. By lesson 3 your coach will introduce you to the art of ‘trimming’ your surfboard across a wave, along with how to read waves and then ride them left or right. The children (and brave adults) will also be introduced to tricks such as the ‘Switch Stance, Flamingo and Handstand!’ along with more traditional move such as the ‘Hang 5 and Hang 10’.
By lesson 3 your coach will also give your family the opportunity to move from beginner to improver surfboards!

BOOK SURF EXPERIENCE
This family package includes two 2-hour surf lessons as part of a group. After learning the art of ‘standing up’ on your first lesson we will focus on ‘staying up’ during the second lesson. The 2 day course will also cover the pro pop-up and speeding up / slowing down techniques. By the end of the lesson you will also be introduced to your first reform / green wave. We will guarantee your family members will all surf in the same group our experienced coaches both parents and children have an unforgettable time.
Where possible on multi lesson packages we will guarantee the same coach that taught you on your group on the previous lessons.

BOOK HIT THE SURF
Our family taster surf lesson is aimed at those who have never surfed before or have had a few lessons and need a refresher. Your lesson will be divided into 3 parts ‘A, B & C’ firstly; on the beach you will learn about safety, your equipment, how to catch waves & get to your feet riding a wave! Then it’s time to hit the surf and put it all into practice.
We will guarantee your family members will all surf in the same group.

BOOK TASTER
We run daily Coasteering Adventures from April – October from Mousehole and Praa Sands. Ignite your adrenaline and enjoy the fastest growing family friendly outdoor activity in Cornwall. Your coach will guide you along some of Cornwall’s most spectacular stretches of coastline, during your 2-3 hour lesson you will experience cliff jumping, belly-flopping, climbing, bouldering, exploring caves and you may even get to play with one of the friendly seals.
We had three morning lessons - Mum, Dad and 2 boys (8 and 11). What a fantastic and memorable experience! - The weather was pretty changeable to say the least and Steve stayed in touch by text to arrange the morning meeting point each day. The gear was fab (boards, wetsuits, boots) and the instruction was confidence inspiring and GREAT fun.
We loved it - it was an unexpected highlight of the holiday (with covid spoiling our other plans) - to be honest, I don't think we could have had a better holiday anywhere in the world. All of the team worked to keep us safe while we had a great time in the water - it was their technical knowledge and experience helped us to improve quickly without feeling defeated.
